Why alternative assets?

Australia has seen a pivotal shift to private market investments as investors looking for growth and income move to diversify their investment portfolio. Alternative assets are generally protected from market volatility, currency fluctuations and inflation. They can also reduce overall risk and maximise value over the longer term, helping investors achieve stability in their investment portfolio.

Alternative asset classes

Alternative asset classes

Private credit

Any form of lending held by or extended to privately-held companies. It comes in many forms, but commonly involves non-bank institutions making loans to private companies or buying those loans on the secondary market.

Real estate

Can consist of office, industrial, housing, hotel or retail properties. Each type of property investment differs and investment can be in debt or equity. The sector has provided regular income and steady growth as some investors like owning physical assets.

Asset-backed lending

Asset-backed portfolios are typically an exposure to a range of underlying assets. Investors benefit from having security over a diversified pool of assets, rather than a single asset, which can reduce the overall risk. iPartners focus on short-dated senior secured and largely asset-backed loans.

Agriculture

Agriculture investments include ownership or debt funding of livestock, crops, water rights and other forms of primary production. Investments can also include freehold or leasehold ownership of farming land.

Managed funds

Managed Funds offered by iPartners make up a diversified portfolio across iPartners co-investments, cash, private credit, asset backed debt, property and a selection of 3rd party alternative funds and assets. The Funds provide investors exposure to alternative asset investments.

Education is the biggest hurdle to alternatives becoming a mainstream asset class. This book aims to fill the gap and educate a wider audience on the opportunity of investing in alternatives.
